The 5th workshop titled “Comprehensive Sexuality Education, CSE at Home – skills and knowledge you need to know by puberty” is now available to stream on demand.
I created this workshop in response to the many inquires and requests I received regarding this topic from parents and people in the educational field. It seems that news like Johnny & Associates’ sexual abuse scandal from May this year has caused more anxiety for everyone.
My Experiences in the Past.
When I was six years old, I started waking up at 5:30am to go to school by taking three trains and one bus. It took me almost two hours one way. During the long commute, I experienced molestation on the trains. It was normal life for me to go to school in fear with friends that experienced the same. That life continued on for nine years until I went to study abroad.
Sexual Abuse Among Children in Japanese Nurseries and Preschools.
Now I am a mother of a seven, five and almost three years old. While they go to nursery and preschool, I learnt that in Japan sexual abuse among children is more common than you think. I was shocked to have learnt that even such young children are suffering.
Need for CSE at Home.
To prevent children from becoming a predator or a victim, we need education. Comprehensive Sexuality Education or CSE at home is a must in today’s age. Given the information age we currently live in, it is our responsibility as parents to understand what is going on in the world and protect our children accordingly. Home education is unavoidable especially since Japan is severely lacking compared to other developed countries in sex education.
Common Questions:
Is this workshop just for parents of preschoolers?
No. Even though it is titled as “Comprehensive Sexuality Education, CSE at Home – skills and knowledge you need to know by puberty”, in this video, you will be able to gain the basic understanding of CSE and why it is important, as well as what is going on in the world and Japan today in regards to child safety and sex education.
Is this workshop only for those who live in Japan?
No. This workshop will focus on issues in Japan as well as the world, and it would be beneficial for those who do not live in Japan. In terms of sex education, some countries in Europe are more advanced than others, however, the education is often not consistent across the country and may not be enough for your child. Studies show sex education to be more effective when done at home while it remains as difficult task for many parents.
At this moment, the workshop is only available in Japanese. An English version will be available soon. Please be patient, and I look forward to seeing you in the future workshop!
